In the second century BC, Zhang Qian hollowed out the Western Silk Road that opened the way for the economic and cultural exchanges between China and the West. In the twentieth century, a steel road linking Asia with Europe runs through the Alashankou. This is the new Silk Road today - the new Eurasian Continental Bridge.
