黄刺蛾又名洋辣子、刺毛虫、毛八角。该虫在国內分布在20多个省(区),为害美杨、毛白杨、刺槐、榆、柳、桑、苹果、梨、枣、杏、樱桃、核桃、葡萄、李、山楂和石榴等,是林木和果树的重要害虫。黄刺蛾在北方多数地区一年发生一代。这种蛾子的卵散产在叶子的背面,一个叶片上只产几粒。幼虫发生期为7月中旬至8月下旬,小幼虫吃叶肉,稍大些就把叶子吃成不规则的缺刻,严重时代剩叶柄和叶脉。
