On March 24, 1989, Exxon’s Valdez supertanker loaded 1.26 million barrels of crude oil in Prince William Sound, Alaska, and headed for Long Beach, California. When sailing to Bly, 40 kilometers south of the port of Valdés, the tanker straddled the reef and landed 2.4 kilometers off the fairway, resulting in 10 cracks in 15 of the tankers and the flow of crude oil from the bottom of the ship. The Valdez oil tanker is 300 meters long with a carrying capacity of 214,861 tons and a crew of 20. 260,000 barrels of crude oil tanker leaked into the sea, resulting in a length of 13 km on the sea, 5.6 km wide
