Metabolic Normal Obese (MHO) is a type of obesity subpopulation that has received much attention in recent years. It is characterized by obesity but with high insulin sensitivity, accounting for 20% -30% of the obese population. Due to the existence of some protective mechanisms, the MHO population is different from the previously mentioned “high-risk and obesity” population in terms of clinical manifestations, inflammation, metabolic profile, treatment and prognosis, etc., and in-depth exploration of its metabolic protection mechanisms and clinical parameters Longitudinal changes are significant for obesity research and health care. This article summarizes the research progress of MHO from epidemiology, defining standards, protection mechanisms, research prospects and so on, and aims to promote the understanding of this important obesity subtype by researchers and clinicians.
