Objective To investigate the clinical significance of prenatal maternal blood and umbilical cord blood leptin in newborn infants with pregnancy induced hypertension. Methods From February 2000 to October 2002, 96 cases of pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH) were measured by radioimmunoassay. The level of umbilical serum leptin in maternal blood and its newborn before labor was measured in 150 normal pregnant women . Results, maternal blood, cord blood leptin levels were significantly higher in severe PIH group; systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and mean arterial pressure in pregnancy-induced hypertension group and maternal serum leptin levels were significantly higher than normal pregnancy Group. There was a significant positive correlation between cord blood leptin level and neonatal birth weight and body mass index in mild and moderate PIH group and normal pregnancy group. Conclusion The level of maternal blood leptin may be one of the indicators of diagnosis and diagnosis of moderate and severe pregnancy-induced hypertension. Cord blood leptin levels may become normal pregnancy, mild to moderate pregnancy-induced hypertension, one of the indicators of fetal growth and development status assessment
