自1987年起,我国开始实行大学英语四级统一考试。这对我国大学英语教学起了很大的推动作用。然而,大学英语四级统考,经过了近九年的实践检验,也暴露了它的一些不足和缺陷。 一、信度方面存在着问题 (大学英语教学大纲)明确指出:“大学英语教学目的是,培养学生有较强的阅读能力、一定的听和译的能力以及初步的写和说的能力,使学生能以英语为工具,获取专业所需的信息,并为进一步提高英语水平打下较好的基础。(《大纲》,1986)。由此可见,新的教学大纲把培养学生的语言实际应用能力提到了一个新的高度。大学英语四级考试是以客观为主(85%)、主观为辅(15%)的一种测试。它侧重测试学生的语言接受能力,而不是语言运用能力。四级统考大面积采用多项选择题,学生只需在四个选择项中选择一个正确答案。这种题型偶然得分的可能性较大。学生不管对题目是否理解,都有25%的概率可以得分。因此,测试的结果往往是好、中、差距离拉不开,难以反映学生运用、掌握语言的真实水平。
