天下五岳,北岳恒山大概是最寂寥、最凄清的了。但笔者以为恒山是大气的、壮烈的。 恒山连结着一个悠远的传说,而正是这个于史有载的传说,曾一度使恒山蒙尘冷落。古时,舜帝巡狩四方,见恒山奇峰耸矗,山势巍峨,遂封为北岳,为北方万山之宗主。进入有史时代,秦始皇朝封天下十二名山,恒山被推崇为天下第二山。汉武帝时,首封恒山为神。恒山是尊贵的。同样,又是“灵石东飞”的典故,后来人为地使北岳的荣耀落在了河北曲阳,恒山失去了帝王的朝拜和皇家的祭祀。
