Based on seismic data from horizontal wells, oil and gas were recovered from fractured reservoirs on the Austin, Texas chalk belt that were previously missed by conventional drilling and completion techniques. Giddings Field, a well-known oil field in Texas, has a commercial production that is completely linked to the development of porosity and porosity in natural fractures. As the main target of Austin chalk limestone, the matrix porosity and permeability failed to maintain the production of commercial oil and gas. For more than a decade, identifying cracks based on seismic methods has been the successful oil finding method in this area. Now advances in horizontal drilling technology have enabled people to develop many seismic fracture indicators in the same well. These labels often represent valuable accumulations of oil and gas.
