OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether there is a western drug ingredient in a so-called anti-epileptic “Chinese patent medicine” preparation. METHODS: Plasma concentrations of phenobarbital, phenytoin sodium, carbamazepine, and sodium valproate were monitored in patients with epilepsy who were treated with “Chinese proprietary Chinese medicine” preparations in Peking University Outpatients with epilepsy from 1995 to 2005. Analyze the results. Results: Of the 76 “Chinese patent medicines” taken by the patients monitored, the above four western medicine ingredients were added in the dark, including 45 kinds of western medicine ingredients, 22 kinds of two kinds of western medicine ingredients, and three types of western medicine. There are 7 kinds of ingredients, and there are 2 kinds of four kinds of western medicine ingredients. Phenobarbital was added in 44 kinds of Chinese medicines, accounting for the largest proportion, followed by phenytoin, carbamazepine, and sodium valproate. Conclusion: Western medicine has been secretly added to the so-called anti-epileptic “Chinese proprietary Chinese medicines”, which has seriously violated the rights of patients and impeded the regular treatment of anti-epilepticism and impaired the patient’s health.
