Objective: To investigate the role of nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin (ET) in acute cerebral vasospasm (CVS) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Methods: The SAH model of non-craniotomy rats was used to detect the changes of the diameter of basilar artery (BA) before and after SAH, the changes of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and NO, ET in blood in 24 hours. Results: After SAH, the diameter of BA was significantly reduced. The rCBF decreased significantly within 24 h after SAH. The content of blood NO decreased from 1 h after SAH, but was lower than preoperatively at 1 h after SAH. Value for 24 h. Conclusion: The decrease of blood NO and the increase of ET concentration after SAH are involved in the occurrence of acute CVS
