The new weekly patch adds a new member to the family of contraception methods and is well suited to women looking for reversible and easy-to-use methods of birth control. FDA has now approved Ortho Evra (the first transdermal [transdermal] patch) for fertility regulation. The steroid hormone used in this patch is the same as the steroid hormone in oral contraceptive tablets and is slowly released into the blood stream through the skin. Previously, another similar patch has been successfully used in women to release steroid hormone replacement therapy after menopause and release nicotine to help smokers to eliminate smoking habit.
