威兼·法尔(William Farr,1807—1883),英国统计学家和人口统计制度的奠基人。 法尔1807年11月30日出生于英国希罗普郡肯景。先后于1826-1828年在希鲁兹伯里和1829-1931年在法国巴黎学习医学。回国后,从事医务工作,任实习医生和《自由争论医学杂志》的撰稿人。1937年发表《生命统计学》文章,翌年,不再行医,到中央户籍总署工作,开始时任《统计摘要》编辑,不久提升为户籍署长,直到1879年。在1851年和1861年英国第6次和第7次人口普查中,任助理专员;1871年第8次人口普查中任专员。
William Farr (1807-1883), British statistician and founder of the demographic system. Fall was born on November 30, 1807 in King Peak, Shropshire, England. He studied medicine in the Seychelles during 1826-1828 and Paris in France in 1829-1931. After returning home, he engaged in medical work as a practicing doctor and writer for the Free Argument Medical Journal. The article “Life Statistics” was published in 1937. The following year, he no longer practiced medicine and went to work at the Central Household Registration Office. At the beginning he was editor of “Statistical Digest.” He was soon promoted to permanent resident registration until 1879. Assistant Commissioner in the 6th and 7th Census of Great Britain in 1851 and 1861; Commissioner in the 8th Census of 1871.
