Vascular calcification is a common pathological manifestation in patients with diabetes. Studies have shown that vascular calcification is an active, regulative, treatable, and preventable process similar to bone development and cartilage formation. Vascular calcification process must be accompanied by the death of vascular smooth muscle cells, studies have shown that vascular smooth muscle cell apoptosis is involved in the occurrence of vascular calcification. PTEN is one of the earliest tumor suppressor genes with phosphatase activity and plays an important regulatory role in various biological activities such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration and vascular growth. PTEN has been shown to promote the apoptosis of vascular smooth muscle cells Death. In the past, people’s research on PTEN mainly for its role in the field of cancer, in recent years, with further research, it was found in vascular calcification also play an important role. This review summarizes the research progress on the relationship between PTEN and vascular calcification in diabetic patients.
