To understand the prevalence of hepatitis C virus co-infections in patients with viral hepatitis, we tested HAV, HBV, HCV, HDV and HEV markers in 596 patients with viral hepatitis. The subjects of the study were all patients with hepatitis C virus co-infection diagnosed at the First Clinical Medical College of Shanxi Medical University from April 1994 to July 1997, accounting for 84% of the total number of hospitalized hepatitis in the same period.
