The damage caused by the leaf blotch was found in September 1997 in lentils and tomato leaves in the western part of the city of Hotan. However, there were too few parasitic worms and no results were found. In early August 1999, a vegetable farmer in the suburbs sent several gourd leaves which were seriously eaten. A field survey showed that the American lizard leaf miner was very serious in the government of the Gujiang Bagh township. A census was then arranged for each county, indicating that the worm was widely distributed in the Hetian area
