国家体委第一任主任贺龙元帅诞生于桑植县,他的体育思想贯穿于桑植体育工作的始末,其影响甚远。桑植人民以贺龙体育思想为指导,大力发展群众体育、竞技体育与学校体育,鼓励全民参与到体育活动中来,使桑植体育工作得到健康、持续发展,体现了贺龙体育思想的实践性和科学性。研究桑植体育,对进一步传承弘扬贺龙体育思想,发展桑植体育事业有着重要的理论依据与实践意义。
