We detected PKC isoform gene expression in the heart and brain of SHR using Northern blot analysis.The resultss revealed significant increased levels of expression of the Ca~(2+)-dependent isoforms PKC-Y in the cerebral cortex of 4 and 20 weeks SHR compared with WKY, while Ca~(2+)-inde pendent isoforms PKC-e did not differ between SHR and WKY.Interestingly,in ventricular myocardium,there was a significant expression of the Ca~(2+)-inde pendent isoform PKC-εin 4 and 20 weeks SHR compared with WKY.Ca~(2+)-dependent PKC-Y may be mainly involved in the modulation of blood pressure in the level of the central nervous system,while Ca~(2+)-independent PKC-εcould be related to the genetic myocardial hypertrophy.
