This article is based on monographs written by Kostenko, a prominent expert in the Soviet tank manufacturing industry. Kostenko served as deputy director of the Military Industrial Committee of the Soviet Council of Ministers in charge of the development and production of Soviet tank armored vehicles. He participated in the design of T-54B, T-55 and T-62 tanks. He was involved in the design of T-10 tanks and BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle weapon systems and served as the chief engineer of T-64 tanks. This article is based on its “tank (man-machine environment)” published in 2001. Although this article was written earlier and some of the examples and data are old, many of its ideas still deserve to be considered and borrowed today.
