Cold will bring tremendous harm to the fruit trees, but also will cut the orchards. There was almost no snow in the winter of 1968/1969. In most parts of central Soviet Union, the soil temperature at 20 cm deep dropped to -14 ° C. This winter, 30% of saplings died because their roots were frozen.
