英语写作初学者,包括有过多年英语语言训练的人,写作时常会犯垂悬修饰语的错误(dangling modifiers)。本次辅导将着重讨论垂悬修饰语及其纠正方法。垂悬修饰语是指在句子中找不到逻辑上被修饰对象的修饰语。一般而言,垂悬修饰语的表现特点是:①该修饰语所修饰的成分在句子当中根本没有出现:②被修饰语的语法形式是错误的。其结果是使读者有点“悬垂空中”而不知所云的感觉。例如:

Beginners of English writing, including those who have spent many years of English language training, often commit dangling modifiers when writing. This tutorial will focus on discussing hanging modifiers and how to correct them. Hanging modifiers are modifiers that do not find logically modified objects in sentences. In general, the performance characteristics of hanging modifiers are as follows: 1 The component modified by the modifier does not appear in the sentence at all: 2 The grammatical form of the modifier is wrong. The result is that the reader is somewhat “hanging in the air” and feels cloudless. E.g:
