1900年6月10日,英、美、德、法、俄、日、意、奥八个帝国主义国家入侵中国,陆续攻陷天津、北京。先后在北京前门外、三海、海淀、圆明园、颐和园等处放火,民众死者数以万千,清军死者640人,经过洗劫的北京,“腐肉白骨纵横”,大火熊熊,数日不熄,焚毁房屋不计其数。 1918年2月26日,香港快活谷马场火灾,当时的看台,是用竹枝、木板建成的。看台下开设熟食摊。突然看台倾倒,正好压在熟食摊的煤油炉上,顷刻之间酿成火灾,烧死600多人。
