Criticism of “awakening” has traditionally focused on its well-publicized feminist consciousness, but ignores the contradiction of Kate Chopin’s feminist consciousness in this novel. In this paper, we analyze the repetition of three forms inside and outside the text of Awakening: the repetition of Edna’s love model in the text; the awakening and Kate Chopin’s life experiences and the conflicting attitudes toward the feminist movement at that time; The repetition with Chopin’s another one-hour story reveals the “double-sided Chopin” phenomenon of contradictory and hesitant attitude toward female consciousness.
