“The Imprtance of Living” is the first book created by Lin Yutang’s trip to the United States. It is also another English work succeeded by “My Country and My People”. The book was published in the United States in 1937 and was ranked 52nd in the United States in the top list of the book for the following year. It was republished for more than 40 times and translated into more than ten languages. In this book, Lin Yutang uses pure English to fully communicate the way of life of the Chinese people and the romantic and elegant oriental sentiments of Huai Huada, the Taoist sentimentalism, and to the Westerners, reciting a model that can be imitated. “The highest typical life” model. Although Lin was a literary master, he was very humble. He said a very wise word in the book’s preface: “My thoughts are not very profound, and the books I read are not very extensive. The books one read Too much is not a mistake.” This article is selected from the first section of the book “The Enjoyment of Nature” in Chapter 10 “Paradise Lost?”
