《刺夜》讲述的故事恰恰有史可考,整部影片以清朝末年各地高涨的革命情势为背景,围绕着刺杀安徽巡抚鄂托展开。影片的主人公许骥远最后成功刺杀安徽巡抚鄂托,不能不让人想起成功刺杀了安徽巡抚恩铭的徐锡麟。我们考察许骥远这一主人公姓名的由来,可以发现,徐与许同音,而徐锡麟四弟(也是革命党人)的名字是徐锡骥,并且结合片中主要刺杀情节发生于“高等警察学校”
