This article describes the qualitative analysis of several polyester resin structures. Resin samples were refluxed with 20% HCl. Hydrolyzed to the original reactants (polyacids and polyols), and then analyzed by mass spectrometry (MS) for polyacids and polyols. The structure of the polyesters and polyols was determined based on the structure of the polyacids and polyols.
