个性主题在中国的特定时期——“五四”时期的出现，顺应了中国社会的历史的文化的发展潮流，故能迅猛地成为中国“五四”时期的文化主流，引导着中国知识分子奋勇直前。但由于中国的个性与西方的个性有着不同的内在本质，也由于中国知识分子有着西方知识分子不同的文化底蕴，更由于中国的个性主题脱离了中国社会的历史现实，因此，中国的个性主题不能象西方个性主题一样始终占据着文化的主导地位而只能是昙花一现，最终归于寂灭。虽然如此，“五四”时期个性主题的出现，使中国的知识分子从睡梦中被唤醒，以百倍抖擞的精神努力奋起，推翻了原有的旧秩序，建立了不可磨灭的历史功绩。
The emergence of personality themes in a particular period of China during the May 4th Movement conforms to the cultural trend of historical development in Chinese society and thus can rapidly become the cultural mainstream of China during the May 4th Movement and lead the Chinese intellectuals to courageously Straight ahead. However, since China’s personality and western personality have different intrinsic essences, and because Chinese intellectuals have different cultural backgrounds of Western intellectuals and moreover China’s personality theme is out of the historical reality of Chinese society, the theme of personality in China can not As the theme of the Western personality always occupy the dominant position of culture and can only be short-lived, and ultimately return to extinction. Nevertheless, the emergence of the theme of personality during the May 4th Movement brought the Chinese intellectuals awoke from their dreams and worked hard in a hundred-year-old spirit to overthrow the original old order and establish an indelible historic merit.
