JR McNeill, a professor of history at Georgetown University in the United States, was born in 1954 in Chicago. He studied the history of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean from the 17th to the 18th centuries and later turned to the study of environmental history. He enjoyed a high reputation in the field of international environmental history. He was the chairman of the Society for Environmental History and International Affairs of Sink Holmanus from 2003 to 2006, Won the Fulbright Outstanding Achievement Award
