插增本《水浒》保存了简本的古老面貌,分为甲乙两种,白木直也、马幼垣等专家曾对此做过研究。艾俊川先生最近又发现了插增甲本的残本,与德国斯图加特残本互补,笔者对此重新进行分析。新残本中林冲题诗,五言八句,与容与堂本大致相同,这显示了新残本很古老。通过正文比勘,插增甲本有些地方比评林本详细,而且容与堂本也有相应的句子,这也是其古老的一证。不过有的地方评林本比插增甲本更详细,再拿刘兴我本、《汉宋奇书》本、《英雄谱》本等多个本子比较,插增甲本有些地方比其他简本简单,乍看似乎展示出极其复杂的情况。其实近年对《水浒》版本研究的结果提供了剖开其中奥秘的线索,笔者在本文中阐明了详细内容,并对插增甲本的插图标题也做比勘,提出若干看法。
