Objective To understand the mental health status and its influencing factors of government cadres in earthquake-hit areas. Methods Questionnaire self-rating scale (SCL-90) was used to conduct a questionnaire survey on 580 cadres who were severely affected in the 5.12 Wenchuan earthquake. Results In addition to the sensitivity and hostility of interpersonal relationship, the scores of total scores and other factors were higher than that of the national norm (t> 3.291, P <0.001), there was significant difference in mental health among cadres in different situations (t> 3.291, P <0.001). The scores of total score, somatization, compulsion, depression, anxiety and other factors of provincial and foreign aid cadres and Zhengke-level legal cadres were significantly higher than those of other cadres (t> 3.291, P <0.001) The length of service, education level and marital status have no significant influence on the mental health status of cadres in the hardest hit areas. Conclusion The mental health of working cadres in Hanyuan County was significantly lower than that of the general population in the first 1.5 years after the disaster. The main influencing factors were the long-term working pressure.
