The International Monetary Fund recently predicted that the world economic growth rate will be 2.4% in both 2001 and 2002, much lower than 4.7% in 2000. This will be the lowest increase in the world economy since 1993. In a World Economic Outlook report released in October 2001, the IMF estimated that the world economy would grow by 2.6% in 2001 and by 3.5% in 2002.
