From the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China was the beginning of China’s modernization. With the gradual progress of Western learning and profound changes in Chinese and Western cultural exchanges, the article explored the two forms of martial arts emerged in the Republic of China under the background of cultural exchanges. The profound understanding of their connotation and the law of development has the guiding significance for the protection of martial arts and the future development.
