1 Overview of Japan’s Imported Food Japan is a modern industrialized country with developed economy and scientific and technological progress. Compared to other countries, its production of agricultural and sideline foods far outweighs the needs of its citizens. Over the years, its food self-sufficiency rate of only about 50%. Therefore, it is necessary to import a large amount of food from abroad each year to solve the contradiction between supply and demand. With the increasingly internationalization of Japan, more variety and variety of foods are required to enrich and diversify the food culture. As a result, the variety of food imports has also been constantly changing as food imports have increased year by year. Imports of food in 1991 accounted for 47% of the total food in the country, an increase of 54% in 1994, and the number of varieties almost doubled.
