From 1985 to 1991, for a full six years, Li Zhaoxing frequently appeared in front of Chinese and foreign media outlets. He became the longest serving spokesman since the reform and opening up of China’s establishment of a regular press statement. March 1993 Li Zhaoxing acted as the permanent representative of China to the United Nations - he became the youngest representative of China to the United Nations since the 4th centuries.
