软式排球是继正规 (硬式 )排球及沙滩 (沙地 )排球后的又一项既符合竞技体育，又符合全民健身的新兴体育运动项目。 80年代末起源于日本，目前，亚洲和欧美等一些国家已开展了软式排球运动，并已相应制定了竞赛规则和举办了国际比赛，它是融个人技巧与集体配合于一体的具有独特魅力的体育活动。具有适应广、免充气、无伤害等自身优良的特性，在国家教育部正式审订通过了新修订的《九年制义务教育体育教学大纲》中，软式排球成为正式教学内容。为了更好地开展与推动这项新运动，本刊与北京东方永林科技发展有限公司一道开设了《软式排球园地》为广大体育教师提供借鉴。
