The new drilling method for abrasive blasting has reached a relatively high stage of development. This method has good prospects for increasing drilling speed and lowering drilling costs. This is the case of Gulf Development Corporation that has worked hard over the past decade. It was described in detail at the Eighth World Oil Conference in Moscow in 1971. The new method uses an abrasive jet entrained abrasive, the bottom of the well into a number of concentric grooves, the ridge between the grooves broken with a common roller bit.
