At present, countries in Asia and Southeast Asia are in the development stage of HIV infection. In particular, the dramatic increase in the number of HIV-infected and AIDS patients in Thailand and India in recent years has drawn great international attention. According to WHO estimates, there are currently 1.5-2 million HIV-infected people in Asia. In 1992, there were 20-40,000 HIV-infected patients in Thailand, 1,878 AIDS patients and 2,129 AIDS-related patients in Thailand, of which 76.3% were sexually transmitted, 12% were drug users, and 6.2% were mother-to-child transmission. In Thailand, mother-to-child transmission of AIDS is a worrying situation. Since 1989, the prevalence among prostitutes in prostitutes soared from 3.5% to 23.9%. Calling girls and massage parlors’ infection rates rose from 0 to 6.5% Infections among STD patients increased from 2% to 6.1%. The prevalence of pregnant women increased from 0.3% in 1990 to 1% in 1992, and it is estimated that 300 to 400 children have been infected in Bangkok.
