老态龙钟,本义是形容人年老体弱、行动不便,但人们也往往用来形容植物的苍老。不过用这个词形容这棵老黄杨,似乎过了些,因为它苍老之中颇有蓬勃的朝气。黄杨作盆景是上选的树种,尤其是雀舌黄杨;树皮干裂,白里透黄,木质坚硬,小叶细密,而且管理粗放,少生虫害。哪怕是再小的一株苗,它的皮质也是干裂的,就像老人的皮肤一样皱皱的,很具“老”的要素。《老态》从头部到中部直到上部,不论主干还是大小侧枝,都像擎天古树的枝干,坚挺苍劲,气势雄浑。不夸张地说,《老态》树相伟岸挺拔,峻峭雄奇,特别是头部和上部,确实难得。
