小学生要用相当多的时间学习四则计算,其中整数四则计算又是其它一切计算的基础,必须要求学生学好。为此,《全日制十年制小学数学教学大纲》规定:“要按照儿童的认识规律和数学知识的内在联系,把教学内容适当划分几个阶段,每个阶段各有重点。例如,整数分成‘二十以内’、‘百以内’、‘万以内’、‘多位数’四个阶段……这样,有利于学生逐步获得正确的数的概念和熟练的计算技能。”在四个阶段的学习中,“百以内”这个阶段的学习占据着重要的地位,它可以巩固提高“二十以内”所学的全部知识,又可以为将来学习“万以内”和“多位数”做好准备。“百以内”这个阶段知识的重点是两位数加减一位数、两位数;表内乘除法;及用一位数除,商是一位数并有余数的除法和简单的两步混合计算。根据《大纲》的规定,这部分知识分布在第一、二、三册中进行学习。小学数学第二册(以下简称《二册》),
