This article reviews the types and sources of impurities in ferrosilicon and metal silicon, as well as the choice of liquid metal refining methods. This paper only deals with the chemistry of oxidative refining. The center is the carbon and oxygen solubility of liquid Fe-Si alloys and the equilibrium distribution of calcium and aluminum between the metal and the CaO-SiO2-Al2O3 ternary slag. The effect of these elements in the metal on dissolved oxygen is also discussed. The iso-concentration line shown shows the distribution data of calcium and aluminum in the liquid phase range of CaO-SiO2-Al2O3 at 1500 ° C. Reaction pathways and kinetic constraints in the refining process can be explained with reference to these figures. This article also describes the measures taken to avoid the formation of oxide inclusions.
