“S”是英文单词Super的字头(高清晰之意),“S”端子即S-Video——高清晰度视频信号接口。“S”端子主要是供驳接S-VHS录像机用的。S-VHS录像机较普通VHS录像机档次高。普通VHS录像机水平清晰度在230～250线之间,而S-VHS录像机清晰度在400线以上,达到了专业录像机清晰度的水平。但是,使用这类录像设备需配接高档次的显示设备,才能显示出高档摄录设备的画面质量。因此,S-Video技术便在电视机上应运而生。
