“他本来应该成为音乐家的。”一次,物理学家冼鼎昌的夫人这样告诉我。他自幼酷爱音乐,对音乐有一种特别的感悟,音乐能使他忘情。高中毕业时,他在念音乐或科学的选择上犹豫过,当初他曾与一位好友一起报考音乐学院,但最后终因种种原因而进入了北京大学物理系。当年那位执著于音乐的朋友,现已成为知名音乐教授,而冼鼎昌則在最初就被外在力量生生地从艺术的世界拉到了科学的世界。

When he graduated from high school, he hesitated to read music or science. At first, he had enrolled in a music school with a good friend. However, he finally entered the physics department of Peking University for various reasons.
