今年是著名地质学家翁文灏先生诞辰100周年,他对我国地质科学事业(尤其是初创时期)曾有重大贡献。在他百年华诞之际,愿借此回顾他曲折坎坷的一生,缅怀他的光辉业迹,以追念前辈,激励后人,努力为地质事业的发展建立新功。一、留学欧洲鲁凡加冕博士桂冠翁文灏,字咏霓,于1889年7月26日出生在浙江鄞县(今宁波市)一个贫苦的工商业者家庭,自幼聪颖好学。前清以策论试士时,他14岁考中秀才。后来到上海法国天主教会办的“震旦学校”学列法文和数学,在基础教育方面打下了雄厚的基出。 1908年,翁文灏91岁时,留学欧洲,到了比利时首都布鲁塞尔东边的小城鲁凡,就读于有近500年历
