方方的中篇小说新作《惟妙惟肖的爱情》以退休老教授禾呈的双胞胎儿子惟妙与惟肖的求学和从商经历为对照,将时代的变迁、社会的动荡、生命的疼痛铺设在小说中,让两代人的生命对碰在历史与潮流之下。小说虽以爱情为名,然则爱情是缺席的,取而代之的是名和利。“进化”和“退化”两种历史观在辩驳中互不相让,方方却并没有给予厘清,而是持中立态度。但作者对知识分子表现出了一如既往的亲之近之惜之怜之,呈现出了他们面对时代变化既不想随波逐流又心有不甘的尴尬状态和矛盾心理。
