In 1964 October, Brezhnev replaced Khrushchov, as the first secretary of the CPSU Central Committee. In June 1977, Brezhnev was also the chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. From October 1964 to November 1982, it was 18 years since Brezhnev came to power.
