The principles and design of the Foster Scanner were put forward as early as the 1940s, but were applied successively to several mortar reconnaissance and school-based radars after the Second World War. In order to get a wider scanning range and reduce weight, the design of the Foster Scanner continues to improve. The 1977 International Radiocommunication Conference introduces a two-way scanner that, when used in conjunction with a biased parabolic reflector, produces a 45-degree scanning sector in azimuth at about 17 sweeps per second. The Forster Scanner, made of aluminum for the honeycomb layer structure, combined with the dual-scanner technology, has resulted in the Foster scanner designed to reduce weight by approximately 50% from the original design. Now briefly introduce the basic principle of the original Foster scanner and its design progress.
