The role of “controlling infected nurses” was first proposed by British doctors in 1958. It was believed that patients entered the hospital and there was a risk of nosocomial infection. In the United States, until 1965, when studies confirmed that the rate of nosocomial infections in U.S. hospitals was at least 5%, it was recognized that there was a need to set up infection control nurses. At that time, the role of such nurses was limited to the collection of infectious materials and reflected the status of nosocomial infections so that relevant departments could take corresponding measures. In 1976, the U.S. Joint Committee on Hospital Examinations formally proposed that each hospital must have special personnel responsible for collecting nosocomial infection data. Since then, infection control nurses have been formally included in the hospital establishment.
