笏是古汉语常用词,其历史源远流长。史学家认为至少在西周已经有笏,而它的使用一直延续到清朝。许慎《说文解字》却未收录“笏”字,《说文新附·竹部》下新附“笏”字,徐铉注:“案:籀文作,象形。义云:佩也,古笏佩之。此字后人所加。”段玉裁注:“许《竹部》无笏。”对此,我们提出疑问,笏在之前用何字形?“笏”字的造字理据是什么?本文将运用文字学知识及故训材料分析笏的用字变化,系联“笏”
