Tujia funeral painting is one of the core contents of funeral customs. Funeral painting is closely integrated with totem worship, religion, and local Han culture. In a sense, it is a comprehensive carrier of national culture. At present, there are few researches on funeral paintings in the study of funeral activities. One reason is that the existing historical documents are scarce, and it is very hard to find the documents that can be quoted directly. Second, the current academic research on this subject is still blank. Few scholars involved in this field. Third, this kind of cultural phenomenon basically occurs in the more remote mountainous villages, which is not convenient for the collection and arrangement of information. Therefore, this research is still an exploratory study. I try to try to explore some of the field, in order to make useful attempts. Taking Tujia funeral painting as an example, this article analyzes the cognition of Tujia traditional funeral paintings during the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China.
