NEW YORK, USA (Reuters) - Pathologist H Nieburgs said abnormal lymphocytes were found in peripheral blood smear from some patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and homosexual men. Not all lymphocyte abnormalities have been found in all AIDS patients that he has studied, and he cautions that this finding is preliminary. Nieburgs recently reported at a seminar on immunology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine that he found lymphocytic abnormalities in 19 of 32 AIDS patients and 3 of 5 non-AIDS homosexual men, including lobulation and division of lymphocytes, Chromatin particles within the “abnormal” chromatin and large areas of dim screen.
