种苗是植树造林最基本的物质条件之一。植树造林,种苗先行。林业生产建设,不仅要有足够的种苗,而且,还必须是良种壮苗。娘壮儿肥,道理明白易懂。我省已往造林成效不高,原因之一,就是种苗工作没受到足够重视。表现是,或见种就采,或见苗就栽;甚至,不看造林地土质条件、气候因子的制约,一味大面积撒播,等等。结果是,有的受种子遗传基因的影响,部分林分成林不成材;有的直播造林受鼠雀危害,种子成了鼠雀的腹中之物;有的虽然生根发芽了,但因头年生长期短,先天不足,难以度过第二年春旱。教训是深刻的,应当牢牢记取。
